Big, Beautiful Quilt for my mom.x

I am in the process of making a quilt, cushions

and a runner for my mom's bedroom. She loves blues and turquoise and wanted a quilt cover that could touch the floor when on the bed. Here goes. It started with doing some major mathematics. Yes quilting is all about the math.

I began cutting endless 2 1/2" strips and 4 7/8" squares

I was making a star surrounded by a Jacobs Ladder (this is a traditional block made up of triangles and squares.)

So for the ladder I started with 192 half square triangles

and 240 four patch squares. (each square is 2 1/2 Inches)

I wanted them to be randomly connected, but without 2 the same - see my previous blog on 'Randomness'

The First of 48 Jacobs ladders. The block is made of three lines, each line is made of one four patch, one half square triangle followed by another four patch. It is important to make sure the four patch runs the same way throughout.

The second row is a half square triangle, four patch and another triangle block.

The final row is the same as the first row.

The half square triangles are pointed inwards so that they form a diagonal ladder... hence the name Jacobs Ladder.

Now I just have to piece them all together, quilt them and get them over to my mom.
